Ten services, one number, and a written quote before any work begins. This page lays out what each service is for, where Putney's housing makes it different and which one to pick when you are not sure.
Water Where It Should Not Be
The jobs people ring about at night start here. A burst main under the sink, a ceiling stain spreading through a converted flat or a drain backing up into a gully all count.
- Emergency plumbing covers the first call, when the priority is stopping the water and getting a partner company moving.
- Burst pipe repair deals with the pipe itself, the section that failed and what the water has reached.
- Leak detection and repair is for leaks you cannot see, where tracing comes before cutting into plaster.
- Blocked drains covers rodding, jetting and the question of whose pipe is blocked.
Heating and Hot Water
Cold radiators and no hot water are the other half of the phone traffic. The cause may be the boiler, the pipework or the radiators themselves, and the right page depends on which.
Bathrooms: Toilets and Showers
Two of the commonest small jobs are also the ones people put off.
- Toilet repair covers running cisterns, failed flushes and loose pans.
- Shower repair covers scaled heads, failing cartridges and weak pumps.
Which One Do I Need?
If water is escaping, start with emergency plumbing. If nothing is heating, start with the boiler. If a fixture misbehaves, pick toilet or shower. If you cannot tell, ring, and we will route it.
Two Facts Under Every Quote in Putney
Every service page here is shaped by two local facts, and we put them in front of you before they affect your bill.
Hard Water at 257 mg/l
Scale is behind many faults in boilers, showers and cylinders. A fix that ignores it tends to come back, so the partner company should explain how to slow it down.
Later Victorian and Edwardian Houses
West Putney's conservation-area streets are full of houses that have been extended or split into flats. That means concealed pipework, early copper or lead, and shared drains where responsibility needs sorting before work starts. See West Putney, Roehampton and Barnes for the local detail, how we work for the booking process and contact for the number.
Straight Answers
What plumbing and heating jobs can you arrange?
Ten kinds: emergency plumbing, blocked drains, leak detection and repair, burst pipe repair, emergency boiler repair, boiler installation and replacement, radiator repair and installation, toilet repair, shower repair and central heating repair. Each has its own page with local detail. If your problem is not on the list, ring 07782 232151 and describe it, because the partner companies we match carry out a wider range.
Do you do the work yourselves?
No. We answer the line, work out what is wrong and match the job to the independently owned local partner company that can reach you soonest and suits the fault. We then text you its name before it arrives. The partner quotes in writing, does the work, invoices you and takes payment directly. We handle no payment or invoices, and we chase any problem afterwards.
Is there a call-out fee?
That depends on the partner company, which sets its own prices. Published London guides put a weekday daytime emergency call-out at roughly £80 to £150, rising in the evening and at night, and a boiler diagnostic visit at about £60 to £100. These are indicative ranges, not our quotes. Whatever the partner charges, it must appear in the written quote before work begins.
Can I get a price before anyone comes out?
Not an exact one, because a fault has to be seen before it can be priced. What you can have is a published range to set your expectations and a written quote from the partner company before work starts. If the quote is higher than you expected, you can decline, and we would rather you did than agreed to a figure you were unhappy with.
Which areas do these services cover?
Putney, West Putney, Roehampton, Barnes, Putney Heath and East Sheen, across the SW15, SW13 and SW14 postcodes. Putney, West Putney, Putney Heath and Roehampton are in the London Borough of Wandsworth, while Barnes and East Sheen are in Richmond upon Thames. The same line answers on both sides of that boundary, day and night.
Do you cover planned work as well as emergencies?
Yes. The line is open at all hours for leaks, lockouts and blockages, and the same number books planned work such as a new radiator, a shower repair or a boiler replacement. Planned work is usually cheaper than the same job out of hours, so if a problem can be isolated safely and left until the morning, we will say so.
What standards does the work follow?
Water work follows the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 with WRAS-approved fittings. Gas and heating work follows the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and the manufacturer's instructions. New boilers meet Building Regulations Part L, unvented cylinders Part G3 and drainage Part H. System cleansing follows BS 7593. Read the written quote to see how each applies to your job.
Why does hard water come up so often?
Because Thames Water's Putney Heath supply measures 257 mg/l of calcium carbonate, about 18 Clark degrees, and scale quietly damages equipment. It furs combi heat exchangers, narrows shower heads, jams thermostatic valves and coats immersion heaters. Many of the faults behind our ten services have scale somewhere in the story, which is why partner companies often suggest filters or descalers alongside the repair.
How do I decide between repairing and replacing?
Compare the repair quote with the age and condition of the thing being repaired. A small fault on a boiler under about ten years old is usually worth fixing, while repeated faults on one past fifteen, or a failed heat exchanger, point towards replacement. The partner company can give both prices side by side in writing, and the decision stays yours.
What if I do not know which service I need?
Ring 07782 232151 and say what you can see, hear or smell. Most problems become clear in a minute or two: no heat suggests boiler or central heating, water where it should not be suggests a leak or burst, and slow drains suggest a blockage. We route it, and if it turns out to be something else, the partner company will tell you.
